The growing popularity of green energy. 76% of miners have already switched to renewable sources

CCAF conducted a study that found that 76% of miners switched to renewable resources. However, in aggregate use, only 39% is accounted for by the consumption of green electricity.

So, in most cases, hydroelectric power plants are used. Coal ranks second in popularity, and natural gas is third.

65% of those surveyed indicated that China is actively using coal and hydropower. Employees of the Center for Alternative Finance associate the increased demand with the increase in mining capacity in Yunnan and Sichuan. Recall that it is in these two provinces that there is an excess of hydropower production.

For example, in America, and specifically in the northern states, miners mainly use sources of electrical energy. At the same time, 41% refers to the use of gas. This is due to the fact that projects for the use of gas energy for mining are actively developing in North Dakota and Texas.

Previously, the institute developed an interactive map that allows you to track the energy consumption in the bitcoin network. Based on the data received from the interactive map and the survey conducted, the Center employees develop alternative options to assess the volume of energy consumption and losses.

Thus, 29% of the total volume of mining falls on the use of renewable energy resources.

On average, miners consume 64 TW * h of electricity per year. Experts who have a negative attitude towards cryptocurrency in general argue that such indicators negatively affect the overall global ecology.
